CHOOSE FAITH!

by Cathy Weymouth

Tuesday April 27, 2010 - 2 Sam 2; 1 Chr 11; Ps 142; Mt 14 CHOOSE FAITH!

S- Mt 14:27-31 Immediately Jesus spoke to them. “Have courage! It is I. Don't be afraid.” “Lord, if it's You, “ Peter answered Him, “command me to come to You on the water.” “Come!” He said. And climbing out of the boat, Peter started walking on the water and came toward Jesus. But when he saw the strength of the wind, he was afraid. And beginning to sink he cried out, “Lord, save me!” Immediately Jesus reached out His hand, caught hold of him, and said to him, “You of little faith, why did you doubt?”

O – While Peter had his eyes on Jesus, he had great faith. He dared to do the impossible. But when he took his eyes off Jesus and looked at the difficulty of his circumstances, fear took the place of faith and he lost his nerve. As described in the Message: “When he looked down at the waves, churning beneath his feet, he lost his nerve and started to sink. Jesus said, “Faint-heart, what got in to you?” But Peter was smart, he looked again to Jesus, asking and being saved by the Savior.

A- I just recorded a video teaching for Tune the Temple about this very topic. I learned at Henry Wright's ministry a great concept about fear and faith – both project into the future and both demand to be fulfilled, meaning you will likely experience what you are fearing or faithing! And, they are mutually exclusive – you can't walk the walk of both at the same time. You must choose. When we choose to keep coming back to faith by keeping our eyes on Jesus, we will experience him as Savior over and over. We will walk on the water as Peter did!

P – Lord, help us! May we dare to believe that with our eyes on You we will experience great things. When we are in fear, remind us that we can't walk in fear and faith at the same moment. And, like Peter, we need to return our eyes to You and trust You to save us and bring us through. May we be people of faith – believing for and projecting great things into the future!
