Who are you listening to? Why?

S - 1 Kings 12:8 - But he rejected the advice which the elders had given him, and consulted the young men who had grown up with him..."

O - Rehoboam, Solomon's son sought advice. He rejected the advice that he didn't want to listen to and chose the advice that was more appealing to him. The results were disastrous! There is no shortage of advice from books, magazines, the media and the internet. Just like we need to evaluate an internet source, so we need to evaluate the condition of our heart. I think that the deeper issue is whether we really want to do God's will or not. Are we listening to advice to figure out what is right, or are we trying to justify what is wrong? I think we all might have a tendency to want to listen to advice that will line up with what we want to do.

A - I need to ask myself if I am truly seeking advice, or just trying to find words that justify what I want to do.

P - Lord, you only, know the depths of our hearts and motivations. Help us to truly seek your will. When we don't know what to do, make the right path clear and give us the moral strength to follow it. In Jesus Name, Amen.
