Monday, 1/24/11 – Exodus 9-11; Luke 24 - “Open Our Eyes, Lord!”
S – Luke 24: 15,16 – “…suddenly Jesus himself came along and joined them and began walking beside them. But they didn't recognize him."
O – The two men on their way to Emmaus were trying to make sense of the fact that the Messiah had to suffer and die before He could enter into glory. Jesus appeared to them on the road and began talking to them about the Scriptures. They believed the prophecies about His glory, but couldn’t wrap their heads around the need for Him to suffer. While Jesus was talking with them their hearts were stirred and they felt a burning within themselves. The Messiah was walking with them and they didn’t recognize Him!
A – When Jesus comes to us in a new way, how will we respond? Will we be so distracted by the unfamiliar that our spiritual eyes are blinded and miss out on the new revelation that He had for us? Will our hearts burn with that inner fire? The beautiful thing in this passage is that Jesus eventually made it clear to them that indeed, He was with them. May we be open to all the new ways He reveals Himself in the unusual, unfamiliar and unexpected.
P – Lord, open our spiritual eyes to see You in all the ways You choose to show Yourself to us. May the journey take us into a deeper place of trusting You, knowing You, and loving You.
