BEAUJOLAIS NOUVEAU

by Vivian Bills

Wednesday - January 5, 2011 - Genesis 12-14; Luke 5

S - Luke 5:39 And none of you after drinking old wine, wants the new, for you say, 'The old is better.' "

O - Jesus is admonishing the Pharisees and teachers of the law for being so stuck in their ways that they don't see the new thing that God was doing.

A - Old wine is good. It's more expensive and aging is preferred. But, if someone always drinks the same vintage they could possibly miss out on something new and exciting - like Beaujolais Nouveau. Beaujolais Nouveau is the first wine made from the current season's harvest. And there are some that prize it for its nuances of flavor that never show up in old wine. And there are others that refuse to taste it because they believe that there can be nothing good about it since they prize the old wine so much.

P - Lord, I praise You for the newness You bring each morning. Help me to always be open to what new thing You have for me, even as I prize the old things You have done.
