THE SABBATH IS FOR US

by Vivian Bills

Tuesday, 2/23/10 - Numbers 12, 13; Psalm 90; Mark 2

S - Mark 2:27 (NIV) The he said to them, "The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath."

O - This was Jesus' response to the Pharisees when they were complaining about the disciples picking grain to feed themselves on the Sabbath. God mandated a day of rest because it is best for US. Jesus put things in perspective. God said to stop doing regular work, not to stop living, eating and breathing.

A - God mandated a day of rest for man - a day for man to stop his regular work - a day for man to reflect on the glory of God and his relationship with God. But, we are not to esteem the Sabbath more than the man. The Pharisees loved the LAW more than they loved their fellow man. People are important. Jesus died for US, not for the law.

P - Oh Lord, help me to remember to love PEOPLE, not what they do, but who they are. Thank You that You love ME, not because of what I do or don't do, but because of who I am.
