GOD QUALIFIES THE CALLED
S - 1 Ki 3:5 NIV, The Lord appeared to Solomon during the night in a dream, and God said, "Ask for whatever you want me to give you." 1 Ki 3:9 AMP, "So give your servant an understanding mind and a hearing heart to judge Your people." 2 Chr 1:10 NIV, "Give me wisdom and knowledge, that I may lead this people."
O - After the death of his father, King David, Solomon was reigned king at a young age (approx 20 yrs old) and knew that he did not have the wisdom needed to lead the people. So he asked for what he needed in order to do well what the Lord had assigned him to do. God was pleased with his request, delighted that Solomon did not ask for selfish things. So He blessed Solomon in his request, "I have given you a wise, discerning mind, a wise and mature heart." (1 Ki 3:12 AMP/MSG)
A - Often God calls us to assignments we do not feel qualified to carry out. But He qualifies the called instead of calling the qualified! And since He has instructed us in Luke 11:9, "Ask and it will be given to you," let us be wise and humble like Solomon - let's ask for what it is we need to carry out our God-given assignment and then step out boldly knowing that we can now carry out the task empowered by our Lord's strength.
P - Father, use us to advance your kingdom. May we be both humble, knowing that we need You in order to carry out our callings, and bold, not wavering in fear or doubt. With you we can do anything. Thank you for calling us, choosing us and empowering us!
